All the things that we have lost

(sub)Cultures

I just preface this by saying, the "sub" in subculture doesn't imply that a subculture is lesser than a culture, just that it exists within a larger culture.

I'm more or less aligned with the 'gothic' subculture. "What's that?" you ask. Not a bunch of dead Germans, that's for sure. Find out:
  • Gothic Beauty is a wonderful new magazine to check out!
  • Alicia Porter has created a site that explains "goth" to outsiders. It's an excellent socialogical study, and a good read for insiders, too.
  • Alicia also edits a very cool 'zine called Eklectique.
  • I DJ with Alicia at Submersion at Area 51, Thursday nights.
  • I used to DJ at Ascension at Club confusion, Friday nights.
  • I also used to rotate as the DJ at at Club Axis, Tuesday nights.
  • Don't cry for the Utah.Goth page.
  • The Utah Events Calendar has goth and other underground events.
  • Utah GOTHICS, our local Community Service group for concerned gothics.
  • Dark Side of the Web has tons of links to all things Gothic.
  • A sub-subculture, net.goths are goths with email, as if they weren't already insidious enough.
  • Here's a list of g-word clubs.
  • A fascinating participant-observer ethnicity of gothic dancing and clubbing.
  • Two more excellent academic treatments: Fin de Siecle Too: Identification and Gothic Subculture and Bela Lugosi's Dead?: On Gothic Music and the Inevitibility of Genre.
  • Convergence is a net.goth gathering that moves each year.
  • Aircrash Monthly is the hilarious work of SexBat, intrepid blue-haired net.goth.
  • The Goth Boi Babe of the Week often fits my personal tastes in bois - pale, girly, and GAF.
  • I'm not usually as excited about the Gothic Babe of the Week, but a lot of them are still very beautiful.
